Recall of certain batches of NOMIC (U021AA00) and ERGONOMIC (U022AA00) ice axes due to a risk of handle failure that could cause the climber to fall. Immediately stop using any ice axes affected by this recall and contact your local Petzl after-sales service for a replacement shaft, when made available by Petzl.

NOTE: previous generations of NOMIC (model U21 and U21 x) and ERGO ice axes (model U22 and U22 x) are not affected.
Petzl have learned about several cases of ice axes breaking at the handle, which could pose a risk of serious injury or death.

Petzl testing and assessment has enabled us to identify the ice axe batches that may present this risk. The durability of these ice axes does not meet our quality standards, especially for intensive ice climbing and dry tooling use. The failure occurs with no warning signs or possibility of prior detection.
For these reasons, we ask that you immediately stop using the ice axes affected by this recall and follow the instructions below.
