On the 25th May 1997,
Sydney climber, Andrew Lock became, with two others, the first
Australian to reach the summit of the world's seventh highest
peak, Mt Dhaulagiri (8167 m), in the Nepal Himalaya. Then on 7th
August, he became the first Australian mountaineer to climb two
8000 m peaks in the same year with a solo alpine style ascent
of Pakistan's Broad Peak (8047 m) the twelfth highest peak in
the world. The original route follows the buttress centre right,
the solo ascent follows the ridge just below the left skyline
in the photo.
Andrew says "These achievements were in no small way due to the assistance provided to me through the provision of Blue Water static rope. The rope stood up to the rigours of expedition abuse and should last a good while yet"
